The word "ignorance" comes from the root ignore, which implies the subject is aware of something but chooses to ignore the details.

There must be another word for when somebody is unaware of something, not from ignoring it, but because the source is unknown to him. Somebody who is not necessarily dumb or stupid, but not acquainted with the facts on a matter. Somebody whose lack of knowledge is due to isolation, not willful ignorance.

But I can't think of a word like that.
