Outlawing Abortion

SCOTUS will be overturning Roe in he next week or so.  What will be the country's reaction?

There will be protests in the streets.

Political commentators will slam the court.

Democrats will make noise about passing laws (but they don't have the votes).

In the end, there isn't ANYTHING that ANYONE can do.  The right-wing ideologues won this fight, imposing the will of the 28% minority on the majority of 72%.  American women will just have to live with it for another generation or two, until the political winds blow their way again.  It's sad, but that's American pseudo-democracy.

Well I guess this shouldn't be so surprising.

I've often wondered how abortion became a "conservative issue" since traditional conservatism is about small government and individual freedoms. It turns out there may be an element of simple mathematical ignorance involved.

But, as readily-available statistics show, two-thirds of all abortions are had by women of color.  So by banning abortion, conservatives are merely (and rather quickly) accelerating the "great replacement" and within a generation the country will be overrun by black babies.  Unwanted black babies, from poor women, using up more welfare and growing up in terrible circumstances and maybe turning to lives of crime to survive.

Attorneys-General in Blue states are talking about not enforcing the law if abortion is banned nationwide.  Who sees any problem with that?

As the article you linked says, the more interesting situations are in red states, where DAs are promising not to prosecute even where abortion bans have already gone into effect.

Ted Cruz is also onboard with outlawing gay marriage.  So... what happens to all the couples who have already married?  What happens to the houses they own together, the businesses they run, the children they adopted?  Unlike Roe, you can't put this genie back in the, uh, vagina.

The Republican Party, apparently not satisfied with cutting itself off from all women voters and all non-Christian voters and all people of color, now wishes to add all non-traditional sexual orientations to its enemies list.  Good luck winning another election anywhere outside Dixieland, which is still litigating the Civil War.

IVF is on the chopping block too, since the process always creates multiple embryos which are discarded when not used.

The numbers however are comparatively small: 55,000 IVF conceptions, versus 930,160 abortions.

Voters support abortion rights by a two-to-one margin, and come out in record numbers to say so.

This does not bode well for Republicans in upcoming elections.

And I still say "Pro-Choice" is a piss poor name as a rallying cry. Planned Parenthood should immediately change the movement's name to "Anti-Forced Birth."

I haven't heard any outcries about actor Anne Heche being declared "brain dead" and her family looking for recipients to donate her organs.

A fetus at 28 weeks is also "brain dead" in that there isn't a fully-developed brain yet.

I wonder. Since women's lack of bodily autonomy was the basis for the overruling of Roe v. Wade....

Could that same judicial philosophy be applied to make rape legal?
