Just about everyone knew. I have see Foroohar interviewed a couple of times. She's an obviously intelligent person with a deep interest in the subject matter. But it was also the case that much of what she talked about was common knowledge for anyone paying even a little attention. I still may grab the book, however.

I'm still trying to finish the book. As you say, everything she details is pretty much common knowledge, she just brings up a hundred illustrative examples.

'Thorough' does not always intersect with 'readable.'

The last chapter of "Makers and Takers" is Foroohar's recommendations to fix the financial system. Some interesting recommendations.
  • Reinstate a modified Glass-Steagall
  • regulate derivatives
  • a financial transaction tax
  • limit executive pay in options (and tax them as income)
  • increase equity limits
  • change tax law so it's not cheaper to borrow than to save
  • tie gov't debt payments and mortgage rates to GDP
  • limit stock buybacks
  • tie capital gains taxes to how long the asset was held
  • 'healthy economy' stimulus spending
  • investigate, publicize and prosecute the 2008 crash purveyors
  • rejigger the OFR to work like the NTSB
  • have a Hippocratic Oath for financiers

Books that can be summed up in a single phrase tend to be not worth reading.

Fooled By Randomness (2005) by Nassim Nicholas Taleb postulates that most successful stock traders are more lucky than skillful. There, I saved you 316 pages and $17.

Halfway through the book my cat Dot spilled a mug of tea onto it, making it unsellable. I take particular delight in throwing it into my garbage can.

Tribe by Sebastian Junger
If you don't wanna pop for the book check him out on Joe Rogan- the man makes a lot of sense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iurXFfNriyg&t=1915s
