Everyday Haikus

The haiku thread in the <censored> forum was a bit of fun.
Here's another one. But this time, the haiku must be (as in the traditional Japanese) something you observe.

We will adhere to the English rule of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. (If anyone ever figures out exactly what defines the seventeen phrases in the traditional Japanese haiku, please let me know. I have read the rules and am still completely confused.)

From about five minutes ago:


Deer lie in the yard.
The cat sits in the window.
A staring contest.

It's 4:30, I
Don't feel like working no more
Can I write haiku?

5, 8, 5?
Apparently not.

Corrected - pedant.

Not a pedant, just reasonably proficient at counting.

Don't kick a bee's nest
Then complain when the bees start
To defend themselves

You had one of those days, huh?

Ok here goes:

Puppies playing ball
Puppies under cover, look!
Where did the ball go?

There. Have not done that since middle school. It was fun!

Phad Thai, Thai iced tea
Mine is the only white face
In the restaurant

Mmmm phad thai.

A had no idea what phad thai is, so I looked it up. (From Jenni's excellent Homer Simpson impression, I assumed it was some type of Thai donut.) Turns out that I do know what it is, only from a long time ago. We called it Barn Poo (it was really called Bhan Pho, but servicemen can be gross).

I have a thing for Asian noodle foods. The local Vietnamese place knows me very well. My fave's Bun Chay but I still can't say it correctly.

How do you make a
Baby float? Ice cream, soda

What got me, Lisa, was the juxtaposition of the horrid act and the requirement that the baby be fresh. It's the absurdity of the "fresh" that got me.

But, admittedly, I am most definitely a sick man.

In the afternoon
Nothing refreshes like Coke
But it makes me burp

Double Barrel Ale
is not so good at breakfast.
Great at other times.

And that comment about Fat Tire was not intended to be a line for a haiku; just a simple statement of fact.
