| My wife has finally come up with a - possible - retirement date about a year and a half from now. That should give her time to pack her clothes. |

| Time to start spending time in Corvallis, driving around, looking at properties. Finding out the lay of the land. |

| No time will be spent in Corvallis unless we decide to move there. Driving around like a tourist is against my code.
But I look at the thermometer - which right now reads 116.5 - and I may revise the code. |

| A week on the Oregon coast wouldn't be bad duty. |

| I have no desire to visit the Oregon coast or anywhere else. I did so much traveling when I was young that I just cannot work up any enthusiasm for traveling anywhere for any reason (other than a permanent move).
It is currently 116.8, but the temperature peaked at 117.2 today, which I believe is the hottest day I have personally experienced. Okay, the temperature in my office is 72, but still... |

| I grew up on the beach, and Oregon has nothing to compare with the beaches here.

| Washington has no state income tax. Oregon & California do. Maybe that would be a factor? |

| I doubt it. After my wife retires, our tax rate will be relatively low. Of course, if the banks start paying decent interest on savings accounts, it may be significant. I keep most of my funds in savings accounts. In my position, no amount of risk is acceptable.

| Looking at real estate in Corvallis. Homes are selling for what they were here about thirty years ago.

| Today should be interesting. High moisture and a few clouds kept it from cooling off much overnight. At seven this morning it was eighty-five degrees. It's only ninety-four right now. There is a good chance of rain this afternoon and evening, when it is predicted to be around one hundred degrees. I could do without that.
Yesterday was a day for record high temperatures all over the area. Some up to thirty degrees higher than the previous record for the date.

| Corvallis does have some serious drawbacks, at least for me. |

| Pretty pictures. I could post pictures of here that were just as nice. Where are the pictures of Corvallis when it is cloudy, rainy, and foggy? And where is that lake and mountains? It's not in Corvallis.
I'm not sure you are completely accurate in comparing my home to Mars. Especially Mars with Godzilla. We keep Godzilla in a zoo.

You are correct, turns out it's Assiniboine mountain in Alberta, photographed by Marc Adamus who is from Corvallis. Oops. To replace it here's a different winter scene, this time in Corvallis. |
