On my new deck, I have a couple Adirondack lounge chairs (plastic) where I like to sit and read. I need a table next to the chair for my frosty beverage, and a place to put my book and/or iPad and glasses.
I would like to imagine I'm not alone in this.
But among deck furniture manufacturers, the idea of a dedicated side table is apparently foreign. I checked several websites including Amazon, and although there are many TABLES available -- most of them way too high in height and price -- there were exactly *zero* simple side tables with a recessed cup holder.
There were a couple cheap plastic accessories designed to clip onto folding deck chairs (the reviews said they didn't work). There were some wicker basket tables, some folding wooden tables, some four hundred dollar Martha Stewart Living tables -- but absolutely zip of what I was looking for.
So I built one today, out of leftover decking. It's ugly as a mud fence but it's exactly what I had in mind.
