Yikes. What can Ukrainian cybercriminals do with $1B without attracting attention to themselves?

Actually that's probably not true.

One of the reasons that things like this can continue for a long time is that many banks do not report the thefts when they are discovered. They don't want the negative publicity and the potential effect on their stock.
Assholes.

These losses are covered by insurance anyway, so what do they care.

Some banks have insurance to cover such losses, and some don't. Some have insurance to cover personal accounts, but not business accounts. It's a real fucking mess. I've thought about doing away with online banking and telling the banks to remove all of my account info from internet access. At ;east then they can't blame me if someone hacks an account of mine.
