Heard a report on NPR yesterday about residents who lived near the Fukushima nuclear plant being allowed back into their homes, for a few minutes at a time to retrieve personal possessions, for the first time in four years. Officials said the area may be habitable again in as little as thirty years.
The report said the residents were exposed to about the same amount of radiation as flying long distance somewhere.
I have heard before that high altitude flight exposes passengers to cosmic rays (I think). Is this a little publicized danger of international travel, increased risk of cancer?
Do pilots and stewardesses have high rates of cancer?
Do international travelers?
