It is a measure of how far off the rails the Extreme Right has gone that Elizabeth Warren is demonized as "radical," "socialist" or even "communist." She is as calm, reasoned and common-sensical as they come, and sounds like the tenured professor she until recently was. She is not a Wshington insider, and writes with clarity and brevity rare in political circles. Her explanations are pellucid and jargon-free, yet convey the deep and faceted nature of her issues.
Many reviews on Amazon are from Rush Limbaugh's "dittoheads" who proudly proclaim they haven't read the book, and don't plan to because they don't want to give their money to her. Well I have read the book, and it's not as scary as they (and Rush) think it is. Common sense reforms and protections are to everyone's benefit, even right-wing ideologues.
Warren says she is not running for president in 2016, and if that's true I fully understand. She is too good for politics, or what politics has become. Watching some interviews with her on YouTube as I read the book, I'm not ashamed to admit, brought me to tears. We have become so used to being lied to by politicians, to politicians using their office to line their own pockets, to politicians working on issues of importance to them instead of the issues of the people that elected them that, well, to hear Warren speak the truth is cathartic.
We need her, or someone like her, to help the nation heal. If not her, perhaps her words will inspire someone else to take up the torch. We cannot endure the venality of another Reagan/Bush/Bush/Cheney administration.
