Last week I stumbled upon a mention of this British murder-mystery/sitcom, starring Felicity Kendall from "The Good Life" (aka "Good Neighbors"), from 2003-6. I'd never heard of it.

So I ordered the complete boxed set, six discs, for about $8.

It's rather good. I don't know why British television is so much better, and apparently has always been so much better than the crap Americans put on the air.

Ah, I just discovered where I heard about the series. The music is by Christopher Gunning, a contemporary British composer I heard on the radio and was investigating.

I can't remember how or where I came across this show, but I remember watching two or three episodes of it quite a while ago. It left a favorable impression, without really sticking in my mind.

That's fair. It's lightweight entertainment, in the mold of Agatha Christie or Columbo.

But my god.  The estates featured in each episode are d4op-dead gorgeous, th3 sorts of palaces that simply don't exist on this side of the pond.

Also, I have to turn subtitles on.  Sometimes the accents are hard to parse, and the 20-year old soundtrack is a bit muffled.

But even with subtitles on, the slang and euphemisms go generally right over my head.
