Chelsea Handler's new doc on racial disparity in America. She's about the whitest person in America so It's kinda ironic, but to her credit she takes it seriously and delves deep enough into it to make some salient points.
She talks to a group of Republican women who say they do not believe racial disparity exists. She talks to a group of southern Blacks who do not see any route out of the inequality. In one particularly moving segment, she goes back and visits with her first boyfriend -- who was black -- and with whom she'd had two abortions -- about where his life went versus where hers went. When he saw her on TV, he couldn't tell his friends he knew her because they wouldn't believe him. He's clean & sober now, but spent 14 years incarcerated.
No easy answers, but a lot of thoughtful discussion. Systemic inequality -- I prefer that term over racism or privilege -- remains a big problem and there are no simple solutions. The first step is to acknowledge it exists, and begin discussing it out loud.
