Alfre Woodard stars as an inner city (Columbus OH) woman who decides she needs to shake up her life. She gets on a bus, choosing the destination more or less at random — Butte Montana.
The story starts out kinda slow, but gains momentum as Juanita settles in to a very small town outside Butte called Paper Moon. It’s a positive, heart-warming story which rings realistic and believable. It ended up affecting me deeply, with more resonance than at first evident. I ended up feeling pretty strongly about it.
And the co-star is the star of “Smoke Signals,” one of my all time favorite movies. He’s so unknown that I don’t even know his name.
But I recognized his face, some thirty years later.
