Book: Mine's Bigger

David A. Kaplan's previous book (to "The Most Dangerous Branch") was about venture capitalist Tom Perkins and his drive to build the biggest, most expensive, most high-tech sailboat in the world.



Apparently, if you don't collect rare wines or breed race horses or restore WWII airplanes with your billions -- and you can't stand the thought of doing something good with your lucre -- then you race yachts.  Conspicuous consumption doesn't get any more conspicuous than this.

Half fascinating.  

Half appalling.

Huh.  There are actually websites to keep track of where all the world’s megayachts are at any given moment. And you wonder why people still starve to death.
