Trump & Star Wars Empty
PostSubject: Trump & Star Wars   Trump & Star Wars EmptyWed Jan 11, 2017 4:09 pm

Just watched a fan rant about Rogue One and things that didn't make sense in it.

Ranting about things that don't make sense in Star Wars is kinda beside-the-point: EVERYTHING in them doesn't make sense. You look past that to just enjoy the spectacle.

Which made me think of Trump. He said a lot of stuff on the campaign trail (and before) that didn't make sense (born in Kenya, really?) and I think his followers just sorta went along with his storyline anyway. He's a "reality TV" star and we all know reality TV has no basis in reality so yeah whatever. He was entertaining to watch on the magic picture box.

Except... now that he's PRECEDENT (!) his decisions and policies will have real life implications. Joe and Sue Sixpack who thought he was such a cool videogame are going to lose their insurance, and lose reproductive choice, and see their taxes skyrocket, and see their purchasing power plummet. It'll all be REALLY REAL in a few short months....

Unlike Rogue One. Which will still be entertaining but totally bogus.

Basically, it seems like a lot (maybe most) of the Trump voters choose to be very selective about what they believe. Thousands of people in Kentucky were enormously grateful to get health insurance for the first time in many years. They didn't trust Obamacare, so the workers who were helping them navigate the state exchange, called Kynect, didn't tell them that what they were getting was part of Obamacare. Then they heard that it was, and Trump was going to repeal it all. But they decided that was just talk, and the Republicans just couldn't do all the nasty stuff that was being said. Well, they're finally beginning to wake up. And Obamacare isn't even gone yet. Serves the dumb fuckheads right.

Yep, the desires of the 1% are going to look a lot starker to the 99% when they're imposed from above.

Trump gets to decide what's real and what's fake.

Fake: Trump has conflict-of-interest ties with Russia.

Real: Bill and Hillary Clinton run a child sex ring out of a DC pizzaria basement.

So, what I was trying to say, is that noting and commenting on all the illegal/immoral/unethical/unAmerican/unconstitutional things the Trump Administration does in the next 4 years will be about as useless as fact-checking Star Wars.

It's a reality TV show, folks. Just roll with it.
