| South Carolina's governor Nikki Haley is calling for the removal of the Confederate flag from the Capitol building in the wake of Sunday's racially motivated shooting. Unlike the U.S. flag, it has been flying at full mast since the shooting because an obscure SC law requires legislative approval to lower it to half mast.
So, is Haley an outlier? Or is The South finally coming to realize that the Confederate flag is a symbol of hatred and bigotry to the rest of the nation and their own Black citizens? |

| It requires a two-thirds majority vote to remove the flag. It can't be lowered, because it is mounted in a stationary position. There's no way to lower the flag; it's either on or off.
And, no. I don't think those assholes down there will ever come too their senses.

| WalMart announced it is removing all Confederate flag merchandise from their stores -- presumably nationwide. |

| The NRA only becomes interested when there's a chance that their evil overlords - the firearms industry - may see their profits diminished.
But maybe if the south is forced to admit that they lost that fucking war and don't amount to shit in any real sense, then the intelligent states may be able to force through some realistic laws restricting firearms.. |

| Do I think what's realistic? The remark about the NRA? Of course it is. They are a lobbying group for the firearms manufacturers. Nothing more.
And what the hell is "non-open competition" in professional sports? And what does it have to do with this thread?

| Nikki Haley is still defining the Confederate flag as about "heritage" and "pride" and not white supremacy, pro-slavery or oppression of African-Americans. To some extent, I can see her point. It's only a piece of cloth. It means what people want it to mean. If South Carolinans don't think its a symbol of hate, then maybe their hearts are pure. But you ALSO have to consider how the rest of the country views this symbol, and it definitely isn't a welcoming symbol. |
