Mac Montadon's paeon to the universal symbol of "the future" circa 1950-1960. Unfortunately we never received our promised jetpacks.
Montandon visits several inventors who are building/have built their own (average cost: $500,000) and several pilots who flew the official Navy and Bell Labs prototypes. "Like juggling chainsaws while balancing on a greased inflatable ball" one recalled.
Since the story of the nonexistence of a non-product doesn't exactly fill a book Montandon also talks about his parents, his wife and his children, almost as much as his quest for a jetpack ride (unrequited).
An entertaining if ultimately rather vaporous story.
