Book: C D B!

I remember William Steig's little book from when it came out in 1968. It uses letters to spell out sentences: C D B.

Some of them are harder than others. I have frequently thought about this book in the intervening years, every time I see an aptonym (or whatever they're called) so I purchased a copy last week.

Sort of pre-Internet text messaging LOLspeak. Is there a name for this?

Computer operators in the mainframe era used to use a lot of these abbreviations to communicate with their peers at RJE sites. That would be about the right timeframe. But I don't know that the lexicon ever got a name.
