My daughter recommended this to me. It’s an investigative journalism piece about widespread sexual abuse in Catholic high schools in Baltimore. The abuse took place 1969-1975 and involved hundreds of girls. It was uncovered in 1992-1994, a decade before the Boston clergy abuse scandal was uncovered.
The abuse involved not only priests, but in a clever gambit to keep it hidden, local police and politicians and influential business leaders were invited to come in and participate in the abuse of these Catholic high school girls. The District Attorney in charge declined to file any charges — AFTER digging up dozens of boxes of evidence that the priests had buried in a local cemetery. She claims the records were not evidence of any crimes... but the contents of the boxes have never been released.
Oh, and a young idealistic nun who threatened to expose the ring ended up dead, with her skull crushed by a hammer.
Her death is unsolved too.
