Past visions of the future have usually been woefully over-optimistic.
"1984" written in 1948 turned out to be about 20 years too early.
"Blade Runner" supposedly took place in 2019. Flying cars and off-world colonies.
"Back to the Future" took place in 2015. Flying hoverboards.
"Terminator" had killer humanoid robots sent back in time from 2029.
"Twelve Monkeys" had a viral epidemic in 1996 and Bruce Willis coming back from 2035 to investigate it.
H.G. Wells imagined "The Time Machine" stopping in 802,701 AD. Time will tell if he was accurate about Republicans and Democrats becoming different species.
