When we bought new cars last year they're both a little bigger than our old cars, and our garage is quite a bit shorter than at the old house. This means when pulling into the garage, we have to pretty precisely position our cars so the garage doors will close (without scraping the bumpers) while leaving room to walk in front of them. Our margin-of-error has shrunk from about a foot to maybe 4-5".
I bought my car first, and looked everywhere for something I could hang on a string from the ceiling, that would impact the windshield when I was properly pulled in. It had to be light, and soft enough to not scratch the car, and be attachable to a string. It also had to be bright enough to be visible without the garage lights on.
I ended up with a kitty toy, a fluorescent pink round lattice ball about 1-1/4" in diameter. It's like a Buckyball or something, made up of soft rubber ribs in tetrahedrons. It works swell.
When Mrs NoCo bought her car, I thought up another idea.
A couple years ago I bought a novelty "bag of eyeballs," which were basically ping pong balls with iris decals on them. I use them in my plastic skulls that I use for headphone stands.
I took one of them, threaded in an eyehook, and attached a string. Now Mrs NoCo drives in until the eyeball watching her touches her windshield. Works like a champ.
It does creep her out a little bit every time though.
