Texas Power Grid

So, apparently Texas is the only state in the union that isn't part of the national power grid. They have consciously decided not to export or import any power so as to stay away from federal regulation. Texans believe in "Don't Tread On Me" and refuse all forms of regulation.

They were warned in 2011 during the last cold snap with rolling power outages that they needed to winterize their power grid. They didn't do it.

And now millions of Texans are without power, in sub-zero temperatures. The water treatment plants have gone offline, so the government has issued a boil advisory for all drinking water.

During a power outage!

People on ventilators or oxygen are dying in droves. People are freezing to death in their homes, or dying of carbon monoxide as they try to heat their homes with gas or coal or briquettes or wood.

Biden has declared a disaster and is sending federal aid.

Here's a thought: The federal aid should be REPAID WITH INTEREST unless and until Texans harden their grid.

The Texas Republicans deregulated the power companies so that they wouldn't have to spend money winterizing. This whole thing is the result of Republican policies that were intended to push money into the hands of a few rich people, regardless of the risk to everybody else.

El Paso is at the edge of Texas, and is still on the national grid. They have power.

One of the two Senators from Texas, Ted Cruz, flew with his family to Cancun Mexico because his daughter's school was closed.  Let them eat cake!!!
