Netflix Documentary: The American Meme Empty
PostSubject: Netflix Documentary: The American Meme   Netflix Documentary: The American Meme EmptyThu Dec 20, 2018 7:58 pm

OMG.  A show about people who will do anything, even really crazy shit, to get "famous" (i.e. a lot of "likes") on social media.

People who light themselves on fire.  People who eat laundry detergent pods. People who do other dangerous and/or stupid stuff. People who spend their entire waking hours working on their social media exposure.

People who dress up like Paris Hilton (who is, of course, famous for being famous).

The show follows five specific "social media personalities" and shows how fucked up their lives are in the real world: Paris, DJ Khaled, Brittany Furlan, Kirill Bichutsky & Josh Ostrovsky (aka Fat Jewish).

This is, what, a symptom of the apocalypse?  A sign of the End Times?  A cosmic joke?

"Everyone can be famous now."  Queue Andy Warhol's 15-minutes Of fame.  Fame -- even 15-minutes of fleeting fame on a social media platform -- becomes these people's entire life goal.
