| Last night I felt like vegging out in front of the boobtube so I grabbed the first comedy I could find on Netflix. This one had a promising cast. Albert Brooks, John Lithgow, Paul Rudd, Chris O'Dowd, Tatum O'Neal, Melissa McCarthy (who STEALS the movie), Graham Parker & The Rumour as themselves (in a HILARIOUS cameo), dozens of recognizable others in minor roles. Unfortunately, the movie was written (by Judd Apatow) like an afterschool Hallmark special, with non-Hallmark sex added. It was pretty predictable and shallow. But still, 2:14:00 watching the very watchable Leslie Mann come to grips with turning 40 (and she turned 40 the year the movie was made!) wasn't all that taxing.  |
