Christopher Nolan's movie before "Memento," this one has some stylistic similarities and the same eerie feel.
Shot for zero budget in black & white with unknown actors, Nolan decided to adopt a Hitchcockian film noire tone so he could get away with minimal lighting, handheld camerawork, and all practical locations. The story revolves around a complicated triple cross which only becomes revealed in the final scenes. The audience is completely misled up until then.
Masterful writing and non-linear editing.
