I keep javascript disabled in my browser and only enable it for web sites that I trust and when it is required.
And I never, never, never open email attachments.

One small correction:

To protect against JavaScript attachments, tell Explorer
to get stuffed and use Firefox instead.

Unfortunately, Firefox long ago removed the javascript controls from the options dialog/page. You either have to go into about:config or use an add-on, as I have. It turns js on or off with a single click.

Quote :
Allow and block JavaScript on certain domains

JavaScript can be used to do things that some people don't like. For better control, you can install privacy extensions such as:

NoScript: allows JavaScript and other content to run only on websites of your choice.
Ghostery: allows you to block scripts from companies that you don't trust.

JavaScript is a trademark or registered trademark of Sun Microsystems, Inc. in the U.S. and other countries.

I guess I meant "use Firefox with NoScript."

I used NoScript, but it caused too many problems with trusted web sites.
I use an add-on called Toggle JavaScript. (All together now --- DUH!)
