I've been curious about this new version of "The Jungle Book" which is supposed to be much more realistic (digital special effects plus live action) than the old Disney cartoon. The scary animals are supposed to be really scary.
So, it was really good. Not 100% realistic -- even discounting the factor that the animals talk -- but mostly very very good. Realistic motion and gait and positions (except for Balu the bear voiced by Bill Murray, who was often played for comic effect). The rest, while not intentionally scary, were mostly believably realistic -- which is odd, because the story is anything but. The movie rides a knife edge between fantasy and realism, and in the end strikes a pretty respectable balance I thought.
I give it a B+.
