Historically, neither party has fancied this, especially the Republicans with their strategy of gerrymandering. But now they've painted themselves into the Trump corner, maybe that can change.

I doubt that a majority of voters in this country would understand a system more complex than selecting which box (of two) to put an X in.

More to the point, the people who benefit from the present unfair system are the same people who would have to initiate changing it. Unbloodylikely.

California now has a version of this for the primaries.

The result is that there are thirty-four candidates listed for Barbara Boxer's Senate seat: Demos, Repubs, third-party, Indys, and various wackos. I recognize one name in the list. Am I expected to seriously study all of the candidates? Really?
