Does anyone really think this will ever happen?

Don't ask me. I don't think mankind will ever get to Mars, or probably even the moon again.

I think by deep space they only mean within the solar system. And yes, I think that has to happen, or else humans will go extinct, or wish they did.

Wish for it or now, it appears that is the most likely outcome of the path we have taken.

There is nowhere else in the solar system where the species can survive, and we're rapidly destroying the one place we have.
