| Peter Jackson's remake has a lot of the same elements and dialog as the 1933 original -- including some 1933 stage props from the original movie that Jackson has collected. The special effects are of course astonishing. The astonishing special effects are the best thing about it. The casting is all wrong (Jack Black, really? Adrian Brody, really? Naomi Watts, really?), the music is intrusive, the pacing is off. I dunno, it's a big dumb blockbuster, maybe I'm being too picky. Not enough nipples, definitely. Now I need to find the version with Jessica Lange, what was that, about 1979? |

| I happened across the tail end of the movie "Ted" a couple nights ago, dreadful story but excellent animation.
Pixar should do a short, just the last 1/3 of King Kong with Ted in the Kong role. Instead of Kong carrying Faye Wray up the Empire State Building, they should have Faye carry Ted up something smaller, like maybe a skate park or something. |

| The version of King Kong that I found is a 3-disc special edition with TONS of behind-the-scenes production details. Total of six hours of extras (although that may include the commentaries). I love that shit.
Disc 3 is entirely devoted to "the making of," with at least two hours of every detail imaginable. I'm in heaven. |
