| Yeah. I need me one of those.
Not quite sure WHY yet, but I'll think of a reason.
I have a little $30 toy RC helicopter, that's fun to fly although I'm not very good at it. The dogs go crazy. |

| Drones are cool, but...
Correct me if I'm wrong (I know, I didn't have to give permission) but aren't these - in the hands of individuals - just an updated and improved version of the model airplanes we flew when I was a kid? Yes, they can have cameras and can spin around, but it is still just playing with flying a toy aircraft. Isn't it? Is there something significant I'm missing?

| Cameras are not an insignificant addition.
Especially if your neighbor sunbathes. |

| You haven't seen my neighbor. Cameras are not an enhancement. |

| We have lots of hawks and vultures out here. Might be kind of fun to chase them about.
But I have no doubt that the drone would be stuck fifty feet up in a tree within minutes.

- When it does establish a strong connection and everything works, it’s pretty mind blowing. As a journalist, this new ability opens up some really amazing possibilities. You can do the kind of breaking news that used to require an expensive helicopter and trained pilot. You can provide aerial footage of sporting events or a live tour of events or even protests. For the average consumer, I’m still figuring out applications for this, in the same way the average consumer is still figuring out how the hell to use Periscope and Meerkat (connecting this feature with those popular apps would be a great upgrade, by the way). I can imagine it would be very cool to do a live broadcast of your daughter’s soccer game for family around the world, showing the entire field of action. Drones are now a regular part of capturing the magic of a wedding, and a live stream for friends and family who couldn’t attend might be amazing.
Recently, during wildfires in this area, the fire department would not bring in helicopters to drop water because they said people were flying drones in the area, getting footage of the flames. I can see how this could be a problem, for fire department, police department or TV news helicopters. Same thing with sporting events, the official coverage options (cameras on harnesses) might be interfered with. How long until somebody's drone loses power and drops in the middle of an NFL play? |

Or worse. |
