Obviously, not much of a payload (yet). But impressive, anyway.

Quote :
Tiny flying microbots have huge potential for applications in agriculture or disaster relief. When equipped with smart sensors, autonomously flying micro-robots could be used for crop pollination or to monitor agriculture for dryness or drought. In search and rescue missions, they could allow rescuers to cover larger areas faster and more cheaply. “Having 100 or 1,000 small controllable flyers could explore more of a disaster site than a single big, expensive one,” says Yim.
Not without some payload/reporting capacity, and a great deal more range.

Once again, a scientist gets all huffed up, makes extravagant claims to attract funding, when the facts point in the opposite direction.

Oh good, so we don't even have to worry about the loss of insect pollinators anymore. Full speed ahead!

Problem: the new mini-drones are powered by honey.

Maybe they will find a use for them. I remember the first time I saw a prototype sub-one-inch hard drive. Useless, I thought. Then some years later, there was the iPod.
