This "late career masterpiece" from Michaelangelo Antonioni follows a film director whose wife left him. He has fevered but passionless affairs with two women who look a lot like his wife, but still is consumed with finding and understanding his wife. Slow, painful, passionless, and off-putting, the film is nonetheless gorgeously filmed (in the Italian countryside) -- great use of light and reflections -- and there is a long sequence that takes place in a fog bank so thick you can't see ten feet. That's very unusual for a film. It goes on sale at Amazon if you want it. |
