My contract's up on the old 5 so I upgraded to a new 6 last night. Moved all of my apps over this morning. But for some reason my passwords didn't move with them. Oh dear, time to tax my memory.

The dang keyboard's rearranged somewhat. There are new buttons for backspace and forward, which were much needed. But it'll take some getting used to.

Odd what's carried across and what wasn't. None of my passwords, none of my networks or Bluetooth associations. Yet, music that I was playing on Pandora was right there on top when I opened the new phone.

Apple has serious deficiencies when it come to updating anything.
It's a shame, because they make such nice gadgets.

There's a comma key where the shift used to be. Very smart idea. You used to have to switch between the letters keyboard and the numbers keyboard any time you wanted a comma, which was common.

I have, to, get used, to ,it yet.

Did you get the iPhone 6 with the large screen?
Google inquiries indicate that the standard iPhone 6 has the same keyboard as other iPhones.

Never mind. A little more searching turns up that the iPhone 6 has additional keys - 2 added columns - when in the horizontal mode. The iPhone 6S has even more keys: 4 more columns. I don't know why they couldn't have added one more column of keys for the older, smaller iPhones in horizontal mode.

The 6S is freakishly large -- halfway to a tablet. Wouldn't fit in a pocket. Could be useful, all that extra real estate but I'm not sure how you would carry it around. For that matter the iPad mini is a nice compromise, a comfortable size that fits exactly on top of a trade size paperback in my briefcase.

Now you've got me really confused (don't pat yourself on the back; I'm easily confused).

You said you got an iPhone 6. Now you say it's a 6S, which, as far as I can tell, hasn't yet been released. Of course, Google could be lagging behind.

Your remark about the size leads me to think you have a 6-Plus. The specs show that the 6 is only about an inch longer then the 5, which certainly doesn't seem like "halfway to a tablet" which may be a fitting description of the 6-Plus.

Our contract is also up and I've been thinking about getting a 6, but if the 6S and the 7 are coming out later this year I may wait.

So what is it you really have? A 6, a 6S, or a 6-Plus?

My mistake.

I have a six, which is only slightly larger than the five.

The six plus is freakishly large.

I was not aware there would be a six ess -- I was just going on the history of Apple phones where ess seems to be the subsequent model, and said something about an ess. Mia culpa.

The three was shaped like a bar of soap, with rounded edges.  Very comfortable to hold.  The four and five had square edges, not so comfortable.  The six is rounded on both the top and the bottom, making it somewhat tricky to hold onto.  I'm deathly afraid of sitting with it in my pants pocket, as all the videos showed it would bend.  I guess as long as it's my front pocket instead of the rear.  The plus is so large I'm not sure where/how you're supposed to carry it -- too large for a jeans or shirt pocket.  Maybe it only fits in a purse.

I will get $90 for my five from Gazelle, making my cost of upgrading only $109.

As far as the thing bending, I'm not concerned about that. I've never understood anyone putting a piece of electronic equipment in a back pocket and sitting on it all day. Seems obvious that one wouldn't want to do that.

Being hard to hold onto is easily resolved with a thin cover, although I know you have expressed your contempt for such things.

Let us know if you think it's worth the cost and hassle to upgrade.

I opted for upgrading based on something that is not yet fully operational. Apple Pay.

I envision some day soon using it all over town instead of handing over my debit card. It is quicker and more secure.

ApplePay is something I would never use. Not have I ever used a debit card. I use credit cards or cash which are safer.

So I'm sitting on the bus this evening, watching a little bit of Netflix with headphones, trying my darnedest to hold onto this slippery little sucker.

No use.  My big ham hands bobbled it onto the floor, a drop of about 20", no damage.

But it made me realize this is the first iPhone i have owned that really NEEDS a case to be safe.  I stopped by Radio Shack on my way home -- going out of business sale, everything's half off -- and got a nice $60 Otter case for thirty bucks.

Odd.  It's like car alarms.  When they go off in the middle of the night they make ordinary non-criminal people break into your car to silence the damn things.  iPhones are now so slim and sleek you have to buy big rugged cases to bulk them up.

Friday I was riding the company shuttle bus between buildings when, unbeknownst to me, my iPhone slipped out of my pocket. When I got to my desk it wasn't in my pocket, but I'd been playing with it on the shuttle so I knew EXACTLY where it had to be. Luckily we have a well-established procedure for lost&found, because it happens all the time, so I had no problem reclaiming my phone after work.

But it scared me that, even with the big new bulky case, it slipped out of my pants without my even noticing. Is this phone destined to cause me me sorrow? I have NEVER lost a phone before.

Still using the same phone. Still works 100%. No scratches or dents. Still using the very same Otter case.

I guess--aside from the 2-year battery life--that counts as no sorrow.
