Sometimes I Hate Progress Empty
PostSubject: Sometimes I Hate Progress   Sometimes I Hate Progress EmptySat Jan 25, 2014 3:12 pm

I live in a town that has outlawed plastic grocery bags, I think this is great, I much prefer paper bags anyway. But with the decline of the paper bag industry has come the decline of accessories for paper bags.

In particular, I like to use the paper grocery bags under my sink for recycle. I take the whole thing out to the recycle bins when full. Only problem is, the plastic "half-can" I've used for the past 20 years for holding the paper bag is falling apart, and I cannot for the life of me find a new one.

I've checked local grocery stores, hardware stores, storage stores, five-and-dine stores. I've checked Amazon and Googled until I'm blue in the face. Apparently paper bags are so rare nowadays that nobody makes holders for them anymore?

Sucks to be me.

The same thing happened in the county where I live. The law doesn't prevent the use of plastic or paper bags, but allows the stores to charge ten cents for them. The way the law is written is ambiguous, so some stores think they are required to charge for them.

Some stores ignore the law, while others adhere to it. In some large stores, with the self-serve checkout devices, you have to get a person to go get you a damn bag. Kind of defeats the convenience of self checkout.

While I recycle everything I can, some laws are more for appearance than efficacy, and I think this is one of them.

Can you post a pic of your falling apart one? You'd be shocked at what I come across.

I'll keep an eye out.
But you know what that looks like? A commercial sized dustpan with the handle ripped off. I have a big red one, looks just like that- got it at Lowes for like 16 bucks, the handle pops off and it stands just like that.

Nowhere near big enough to hold a grocery bag.  But keep looking -- these things used to be ubiquitous.
