End of film: Paramount first studio to stop distributing film prints

That's a real shame. Yet one more reason to not go to the theater.

There's only one theater in town (a multiplex), and it's all digital. Very disappointing. The pictures are not as good as those on my TV at home. My daughter tells me that the sound system in my house is better than most theaters she goes to - and she lives in New York.

Progress has nothing to do with it. It's economics.

It does seem bitter sweet, though I suspect there will always be a segment of the film/movie, going/making community that will prefer and keep alive celluloid. I love digital and prefer it for it's quality and clarity, as the content is more important to me than the texture or "feel" of the physical medium itself. There is a certain nostalgia, not unlike with vinyl records, 8 track tapes, paperback books, etc, that is attractive in its own right though. I can see the appeal.
