| Okay, this book is not outstanding literature. It is, however, an intriguing true story of a single tiger that killed - and consumed - an estimated 436 people. The descriptions of the adventures in Nepal and India at the turn of the twentieth century really held my attention. Envisioning a five-hundred-pound tiger attacking at forty miles per hour, emitting a roar that can be heard for miles, is spine-tingling. The story takes place in the midst of political, cultural, and environmental upheavals that undoubtedly contributed to the tiger's actions and may leave one feeling empathy for the big cat. And the reduction in the population of the Bengal tiger from about one hundred thousand to maybe three or four thousand is saddening. |

| I read Maneaters Of Kumaon by Jim Corbett many years ago (I think I was a teenager). Indeed, fascinating stories. I'll check this one out. |
