Manafort Going to Jail for 58 Months

The first jail sentences are in for the former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, and he got off extremely light. His sentencing guidelines recommended 29 to 34 years.

Instead he got 7 and a half years, part of it served concurrently, which means a minimum of 58 months with good behavior.

Justice in this country is very seriously skewed.  

And now the Manhattan district attorney Cy Vance Jr. has just filed a new state indictment, which is outside Trump’s pardon power.  The indictment is for exactly what Trump himself was accused of in Michael Cohen’s testimony.

Yikes, Manafort faces solitary confinement.  That's harsh, man. Couldn't happen to a nicer man though.

Franklin Foer, on NPR News, wrote:

Financially, Paul Manafort was struggling. He owed a Russian oligarch nearly $20 million, and that Russian oligarch wasn't going to let go of that debt. And then finally, personally, Paul Manafort was struggling. He'd had an affair which his family had uncovered. And despite telling him to go into therapy and to break off that affair, the affair continued and he was caught a second time. And he had what his daughter described as a fairly massive emotional breakdown.

The Russian is Oleg Deripaska, and he's bad news.  Manafort BEGGED to be attached to the Trump campaign and promptly began selling access to Trump to Deripaska and other oligarchs connected to Putin.  He was busy selling off his debt to Deripaska when he got caught by the FBI.

Rudy Giuliani continues to consult with Manafort behind bars on Rudy's ongoing investigation of how the Ukrainians supposedly interfered in the 2016 election -- a piece of disinformation cooked up by Putin.  Manafort, a close associate of Putin's discredited and deposed Ukrainian thugs, passed these conspiracy theories to Giuliani who passed them to Trump who passed them to Barr.

On December 9 we'll find out if the IG's report is fiction or whether Manafort's tale is proven to be fiction.
