| At the time, I was sure he was an ex-CIA head who was riding Reagan's coattails to use the office for his own oil profits.
Nowadays, that seems like a pretty virtuous resumé. |

| He was less of a crook and more of a real man than pretty much all of the Republican top-dogs from 1980 on. Not completely scandal-free - he knew all about Iran-Contra, and was involved in it up to his neck. But when you compare him to Reagan, or Gingrich, or Ryan, or McConnell...(or even his own sons, for that matter). |
