First, I have to say that I absolutely deplore the lack of text on software programs and everywhere else it has been eliminated. The scrubby little images that are used are mostly meaningless, until you run into them enough that you get the idea (software - even hardware - doesn't come with instruction manuals anymore).
This afternoon, I took a short trip in a small truck that I have had for almost seventeen years. The outside mirrors were wet and useless, so I decided to use their heaters. It dawned on me that I had never used them before, so I had no idea where the control was. There was a button near the controls for changing the position of the mirrors so I turned that on. It didn't seem to make any difference, but it was such a short trip that I thought maybe there wasn't time for it to have an effect.
Got in the house and went looking for the owner's manual (if you leave it in the glove box, there isn't room for anything else). Couldn't find the manual, so I looked it up on the web. Turns out I had turned on the fog lights, which I didn't even know I had. The control for the outside mirrors was down in the far right corner of the center panel for the AC, heater, etc. There was no way to identify the function of the button from the image. I am still trying to find where the control for the rear window heater is.
Q: Isn't progress wonderful?
A: What progress?
