My friend's new car has a feature which, on reflection is kind of odd.
There's a panel on his touch screen labelled "Fuel" which when you activate it, lists fuel prices for every gas station within about a 100-mile radius.
Not directions. Not maps. His car has no sat-nav in the touch screen. Just prices, and addresses.
On the day we looked, the prices varied by about 4¢ per gallon from highest to lowest. The car has a 15.9 gallon tank. Therefore the cost of filling up would vary by about 64 cents, right?
Within a 100 mile radius.
At 32 mpg it would cost you about $9.50 to save 64 cents. Don't you think that's odd?
This friend, by the way, always shops at one particular grocery store
because they give him "fuel points." When he spends $100 at the store they'll give him 10¢ off per gallon. Again, the savings on a fill-up is about $1.59. That never seemed like anything worth driving across town to redeem, to me. I'd rather buy gas where it's convenient, and use the $2 for a candy bar.
P.S. - He also buys lottery tickets.
