If "raw" means the water hasn't been purified then it can give you cholera and other nasties.

Like many words in the English language, "raw" has several meanings. One of them, from Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, is "unprepared or imperfectly prepared for use," Interestingly, another definition is " lacking experience or understanding."  That seems to cover it. What a bunch of jerks. Probably the same bunch of people who think vaccinations are a Communist plot.
