Twenty-five years after the first broadcast, Twin Peaks is back. Rather than making a copy of the first program, as we see far too often, this program picks up twenty-five years later, with many of the same characters.

What's it about? I have no fucking idea. Might figure it out after half the season is over.

Should you watch it? Only if you watched the original program and enjoyed it.

Thanks for the tip, as the prostitute said to the leper.

I never got interested in the original, so I'll skip the revisit.

It is an acquired taste. I'm not sure that I will like this as much as I did the first seasons. I am not the same person I was twenty-five years ago; not as patient for one thing, and that is a requirement for David Lynch productions. In the first two episodes, there was a total of six minutes and thirty-nine seconds of silence while a character was staring at the camera or at another character.

But the fact that David Lynch films are not like anything else you have ever seen is a real plus in my opinion. When one has watched movies and television for enough decades, it seems that damned near everything is a re-run. Not a problem with this, regardless of what else one may think of it.

That may be true, somewhat. But I never acquired the taste the first time around, and a few minutes of the reboot told me I wasn't going to get this one either.

I did watch Blue Velvet. Wasn't blown away, but didn't feel I'd wasted my time either.

I have the DVD and the Laser Disc of Blue Velvet. Always liked that film.

There are numerous studies and articles which claim that there are only six plots in all fiction ever written. You can also find as many articles which claim that there are seven plots.

I completely agree with these findings (I won't argue about six or seven), but I think that if these writers watched David Lynch flicks they would have to add one more plot: "Huh?"

"Huh" is not a recommendation in my book.

On the plus side, Twin Peaks was filmed around my neck of the woods. I've been through the town.

Wasn't nothing special.

Blue Velvet is running on cable at the moment, so I watched a few minutes of it to refresh my memory. It occurred to me that the aspect of Lynch's writing that jars me the worst isn't the stylized visuals or the bizarre plot features. It's the dialogue that makes half the characters sound retarded.
