Damn Dam

We don't really have a place for this, but here it is.

They have just announced evacuation orders for about 100,000 people who live downstream from the Oroville dam. It's about 70 miles north of Sacramento, and is the highest dam in the States; over 700 feet, I believe. There are concerns that the dam may collapse. A few days ago, they opened the emergency spillway after discovering a 500 foot hole in the dam.

Fuck the rain; I want my drought back.

The evacuation is up to 188,000 people. It turns out that the damn itself is not in danger, but the spillways are in trouble. If the emergency spillway lets go, they say that a thirty-foot wall of water will be released. And we have another storm headed in on Thursday that could give us significant rain. Stupid water. Who needs it.

The loss of this dam (which is unlikely) could cause more damage to the state than the drought has caused.
