This movie was mentioned in the biography of George Lucas I just read; it's one of Francis Ford Coppola's first feature-length films (1969).  I'd never heard of it before so I ordered a copy from Amazon.

I'm on my third attempt to get through it.

Apparently(?) what makes a film an "art film" is that no professional editor tells you that certain scenes have no bearing on or relevance to the story being told.

Completed.  Listed for sale on Amazon.

The cover describes it as "intensely moving" and "a movie that still touches us a generation later."  I beg to differ.

Jimmy Caan and Bobby Duvall can't save it. It's portentous and ill-paced and unconvincing and ultimately leaves you with a WTF taste in your mouth, as in "why the hell did I just waste 2 hours?"
