Steve just announced on today’s news that he’ll be taking a couple months off to battle prostrate cancer. Said they caught it early.

I hope that means he can beat it.

As I understand it, prostate cancer shows up in two forms. One is slow to progress, and people live with it for years. The other is really aggressive, and sufferers tend to go downhill and out in a matter of months.

I hope he has the slow one.

Steve just had his retirement broadcast, both he and the crew were weeping openly.  Apparently, after 44 proton therapy treatments his prostate cancer is in total remission, but his co-worker, anchor Kathi Goertzen, died a few years ago from cancer and Steve decided there's no time like the present to "spend more time with his family."  A close brush with death can sometimes put things in that perspective.

He is by all accounts a warm and wonderful man.  Funny.  Smart.  And very lovable.

Steve died in November, not of prostate cancer but of Alzheimers.

Many moving tributes from his friends, co-workers and family who all loved him deeply.

Now, the Dorian Gray torch passes to Joyce Taylor, another Seattle anchor who hasn't aged a day in 35 years on the air:
