| There are very few music albums which I would describe as "perfect" but I just ran across one more.
Jon Hassell has been flitting around the intersections between jazz and ambient since 1977, and his albums are always interesting. These are two fields which don't seem like they ought to intersect, but his 2009 album "Last Night The Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes In The Street" is a perfect realization of that unlikelihood. It is contemplative, yet not soporific. Colorful, yet not showy. It is, in short, the album he's been trying to make for 32 years.
Just for the record I'd also include: *Univers Zero - Live *Blodwyn Pig - Ahead Rings Out *Wendy Carlos - Sonic Seasonings *Joni Mitchell - Blue *Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

Oh, so that's what it was. I heard one of Hassell's albums a long time ago. Around 1985-1990, I think. I could not figure out what he was trying to do, and very quickly lost interest.

| I gave this a little thought and looked up Jon Hassell. He is not the one I was thinking of; my bad. I don't know who I had in mind, but it wasn't Hassell.

| Doesn't matter.
I know my tastes in music are a little out there, I don't often find compatible people. I'm used to it. |

| "Going nuts" is a short trip. On a bus that's only a one zone fare. |

| You mean one of these things? I remember hearing about them. They're like a huge VW van, only you can't smoke weed or get laid. Never saw the appeal. |

| Any clues, descriptions, images you can remember about the guy you're thinking of? |

| Not a thing. I remember where I was and who had the album, but that's it. I don't know what it was in your post - the name or the music description - that made me think of it.

| Memory's a tricky thing. As I was laying awake this morning, at 1:00am, I was going over the jobs I've had in my life and trying to figure out how many friends I kept from each one. It's funny, I can remember a great deal about jobs I had thirty years ago, but from 1990 -- when my daughter was born -- to about 2003 I have very, very few memories outside of parenting. Lack of sleep. Total dominance of parenting as an activity. Learning a lot of new and difficult stuff.
Almost no memories of anything else. |
