Scrubs in Public

There seems to be a fairly active debate online about whether wearing hospital scrubs in public can spread bacteria picked up in the hospital.

When I worked in a hospital, it was routine for nurses and doctors to visit the cafeteria, restroom, meetings, or simply walk the public halls in their scrubs.  What I worried about was not carrying germs outside the hospital, it was wearing these same scrubs back INTO an operating theater without changing.  Which I know happened all the time.
