| You belong to a very big club - I've never heard anyone say a nice thing about Safari.
The problems you are having with Firefox - did you have them before the OS upgrade?
I seem to recall you upgraded to the latest version of Firefox. 57, isn't it?
Have you ever changed the standard configuration of Firefox?
You may want to open the add-ins page and see if anything is disabled or needs to be updated.

| A new update of Firefox -- 57.0.1 -- came through this morning and seems to be working (so far). I am exploring.
My problems began not with Firefox 57 but with the completely-redesigned NoScript released a week later to work under it (10.1.3). And Adblock Plus. Both of which I think updated themselves a couple of days ago without my involvement.

| Okay, no problems encountered in latest Firefox iteration. Time to boot that fucking Safari goat-abortion to the curb. |

| Fooking Safari!!
I had to open it to block some incoming numbers on Comcast (their interface doesn't work with Firefox, dickheads) and now Safari will not close. Cannot close the last window, force close doesn't work, app shutdown doesn't work. What a miserable piece of shit!!! |

| Damned printer is dying.
I would like to replace it with the same model, but they no longer make it.
Any suggestions for something that does really good photo printing, but also works for everyday crap?

| No.
Go to your local computer store & see what's available. |

| The fucking Gods of Tech have been harassing me of late. My printer is screwed, my 1-1/2-year-old water heater has some intermittent problems and probably needs a new control panel, my weather station wouldn't reboot after a battery replacement, and my espresso machine quit.
I got the weather station to work by ignoring the instructions for reset and doing everything they said not to do, and I fixed the espresso machine (who here has ever heard of a magnet going bad?). But I'm just sitting and waiting for something else to go tits up.

Unfortunately, my daughter will not be here for Christmas or her birthday (Jan 3) this year. Going to her husband's family. They are alternating. I decided on this Canon printer. They are too cheap to spend much time on deciding. |

| Should be okay. And at that price, it comes with a fulls set of standard ink tanks - not the "set-up" tanks so many new printers come with.
Today, I learned something new about something old. I've got a eight- or ten-year-old Epson photo scanner. Pretty nice one, with 4800x9600 dpi resolution (and 8x10 photo can create a seven-gigabyte file. So what's new? Today, I discovered that the scanner will scan a sequence of documents into multi-page PDF files. Who knew?

| Mine does that. Have used it numerous times to duplicate booklets and pamphlets. Also allows the scans to be rotated before saving, so that if the long axis is longer than 8½" you can correct the orientation before saving. |

| Yeah. When screwing around today, I also discovered the book/pamphlet/whatever settings. Lots of them.
I have always used it primarily for photos and the occasional one-page document (maybe a half dozen in the years I've had the scanner). I wasn't even sure ti would create a pdf file.

Well, I got screwed there. The "standard" tanks are less than 4 ml. When you set up the printer, it reads the installed tanks and lists them. And the identifying numbers of the tanks are followed by "(setup)". But the thing works. I connected it with a Cat-6 ethernet cable to the router. Works fine with the computer and also with my phone. I have not done any extensive testing, and have just used plain paper for testing, so I don't know how it will work with photos. The old one made exceptional photo prints. But I'm really pissed off about the ink. A set of six full-size tanks will cost more than the printer did. I think I will try non-OEM ink. It's about one-fourth the price, and they don't sell small tanks. Actually "small tanks" is wrong; the tanks are all the same size, they just don't put as much ink in them. If oil and gasoline cost as much as printer ink, the world economy would be destroyed in a week. |

| One thing I really like about my HP 8610 is the ink-by-mail program I'm on. I've written about this before. The higher-capacity ink tanks last a good 11 months or so, and that's with HEAVY usage. I pay $3/mo ($36/yr) to be on the basic "instant ink" program, and then when I exceed my allotted 50 pages per month I'm billed $1 for each additional 15 pages. Most months I do that 4 or 5 times (printing 75 extra pages for $5). Last month I was crazy and bought 14 extensions! Based on this research just now, I have just upped my plan to the "Moderate Usage" plan for $4.99/mo, up to 100 pages per month. I generally print 100-135 pages, looking at my online history (another nice feature of this program). There is a "Frequent Use" tier above this for $9.99/mo and 300/pg/mo, but it doesn't look like I'd warrant that. Still, I'm getting almost 1,500 pages out of a set of ink cartridges. |

| Okay, adding up all my overages I paid $139.28 for ink in 2017, printing 2,161 pages. That comes out to a little over 6.4¢ a copy.
With my new plan I'll get 1200 pages for $60, or 5¢ a copy. If I continue to print 2,000+ pages/yr it'll add another $40/yr (20 pgs = $1 on this plan) for $100 total (still 5¢ per copy, if my maths are right).
I'd have to print 2.,400 pages (200/mo) before jumping to the next tier made sense.

My mistake. The standard tanks are 5.6ml (except for the second black ink tank for documents, which is 11.2 ml). The "(setup)" notice was just showing that it was the first use and was registering the tanks. Still not much damned ink. |

| According to this, the standard HP 951 printer cartridges hold 8 ml of ink (black 24 ml). The enhanced, "Instant Ink"-only cartridges (same size, more ink) hold 17 ml (53 ml black). |
