I too disagree that Sanders is "dead wrong". But Isquith isn't entirely wrong, either. There are indeed millions of people in the US who vote Republican, and even if presented with the real picture, there are quite a few who would stick with their racism and xenophobia and still vote Republican. Getting a functional 4th estate wouldn't be enough, at this point, to make the Republican party disappear.

Okay, not 'disappear' but the GOP would turn into the fringe party its philosophy represents.  The Republicans would not still be a major national party that contends with the Democrats if the 99% voted in their own best interests instead of the interests of the 1%.

But most of that 99% have no idea what is going on. Most voters pay little or no attention to politics until shortly before the general election. Even then, they have no way to understand the truth of what the Republican Party is doing, because their local news or network news programs do not tell them clearly - if at all. The biggest problem is that a great many people don't cast a vote vote based on economic or political reality; they vote on wedge issues, e.g., abortion and gay marriage, that have no place in the politic arena to start with. And the South will not vote Democratic because of civil rights laws passed fifty years ago. One thing the South can do really well is hold a grudge.
