One of the more esoteric rumors about the Sept. 11, 2001 happenings concerns a band that was recording on the label belonging to my daughters (then) boyfriend. The band's name is "Explosions in the Sky" From Wikipedia"The band also garnered a small amount of media attention as the liner notes of this album contained a picture of an airplane and the text "This Plane Will Crash Tomorrow". A rumor circulated that the album was released on September 10, 2001, the day before the September 11, 2001 attacks, but this is untrue. According to Amazon.com, the album was officially released September 4, 2001, exactly one week before the attacks. An interview with Stylus claims the album was available as early as August 24, 2001. Members of the band told Stylus that they had the artwork and idea for the liner notes for over a year before the attacks on the World Trade Center." The rumors were not true, but it did affect the sales of the album.

Rumsfeld claimed nobody could have envisioned the 9/11 attacks, but in Tom Clancy's 1994 novel "Debt of Honor" a Japanese pilot deliberately flies a 747 into the US Capitol.

Rumsfeld is not a mom. I have come to believe we need a mom to run the DOD. Seriously. We learn Murphy's Law fast and we have to deal with the consequences if we don't and we develop good instincts for what's about to happen in terms of how our "kids" (in this case the citizens and soldiers) can get into trouble. I think a mom would have been like, "why are we not background checking who we're training to fly?"
